I have a website. I have a database of zipcodes and addresses. I want the ability to enter in my zipcode and retrieve all the database entries within 10/50/100 miles of my location. I want a list of 4-10 services, programs, APIs, etc., that will allow my website to have this functionality. Any backend solution will work. Services that have the same basic functionality but use the city or address fields instead of zipcode are also acceptable. I'm looking for low-cost solutions so please have that in mind during your research. Any options over a few thousand should not be included, I'm looking for under $200. Monthly contracts are fine. Please clarify if you have any questions. The answer will be rated. Thank you. |

Hi Xemion, I have often wondered how websites figure out what movie theatres and such are near me when I give them my zip code, and your question gave me the perfect excuse to find out. :) you've asked for 4 to 10 website/API/services solutions, so here are my 4 favorite: 1. Zipdy ( http://www.cryptnet.net/fsp/zipdy/ ) This would be my first choice. it's a free application written in either C, PHP, or Perl, that accesses data from the US Census. 2. JCS Zip ( http://www.jcsm.com/ ) This website has everything you could ever think about doing with zip codes and area codes, including the feature you're looking for. If you're interested in also doing the search via Area Codes, I'd look into using this sites many forms from a script. 3. ZIP Find ( http://www.link-usa.com/zipcode/default.htm ) This website sells a software package for windows that does exactly what you want. If you aren't prepared to mess with PHP or Perl or C, and want a nicely packaged solution for windows, I'd definitely give this a good look. 4. ZIP Math ( http://www.zipmath.com/ga.cgi ) This is a commercial package that is available in ASP, Java, or Perl for Windows, UNIX, and Linux. Hope this gives you plenty to work with! ZipMath - http://www.zipmath.com/ You can purchase the software, and/or zipcode databases ZipBurst - http://www.zipburst.com/ They have a Lite and Pro version, not sure which you'd prefer ZipCalc - http://www.campsoftware.com/zipcalc.htm Doesn't look very professional - depends on what you're looking for Do it yourself - http://www.darkshire.org/~jhkim/programming/zipcodes/ MySQL database taken from US census (lat and long for zipcodes) scripts for doing calculations of distances (follow the link for "mathematics discussion") Another do it yourself Zipcode data - http://www.census.gov/ftp/pub/tiger/tms/gazetteer/ Distance calculations - http://www.meridianworlddata.com/Distance-Calculation.asp ZipFind - http://www.zipfind.net/ Professional product but price range from $95-$995 |
