Hi Jose,
I need some explanations on the setup configuration of the affiliate
module on my battery web site www.thebatteryshoppe.com/ I also need
some repairs and modifications to the programming scripts and coding
of the affiliate module for my web site.
You will find full information at
www.thebatteryshoppe.com/JoseLeon2.doc about the work needed.
In the end I want my partner put in number 1 position in the affiliate
program structure, I'm in number 2 position and all others below me.
The document above will explain how I want my affiliate program set
up. But there is an exception to the explanation in that document.
The following will make more sense after you have read that document,
but I will put it here. Reread this after you have read the above
document.
For the purposes of accounting, I want all sales and affiliates that
do not have any referring information to be put under me, (I should be
in position 2 after you complete your work). That way my partner will
get a 4% commission on those sales and affiliates (and I will make
8%).
And on any sales and affiliates who actively sign up under my partner
(he will be in position 1) he will make 8% on and I will receive a 4%
commission on those sales and affiliates. All other aspects of the
affiliate program will work as explained in the document above.
I will pay you $75.00 plus a $100.00 tip on completion of the work. I
try to be very fair in my payments to you. This $175.00 represents a
lot of money to me but I want you to test your work very carefully and
thoroughly. The scripts you will be working on will affect the
affiliate commission payments to a lot of people.
Thank you.

Hi Jose,
When people ask, what date should I tell them the affiliate program
will be operational? I have been telling them in about a week, does
that date seem ok to tell them or too early?
Thanks.

Hi Jose,
How is your schedule? I have at least 2 more urgent projects for you
to work on, but if you're too busy, please let me know and I will go
elsewhere for them. And what about this project, are you interested
and want this job or not? Please let me know your intentions about
this one too.
Thank you.

Hello,
Regarding the text for this question, please, post the full text
here as a clarification instead use a Word file, you can still use the
Word file to include images, but the text must be posted here. This is
not my requeriment but Google Editors, I have been contacted by them
regarding the previous question and the full question text must be
posted here.
And now, what I have done:
-I have fixed the problem with the popup windows in the affiliate
summary page. Now each link popups a help window.
-To change that help text, the strings are located in the file
includes/languages/english/affiliate_summary.php, here are the 8 text
strings:
1. define('TEXT_IMPRESSIONS_HELP', '<b>Impressions:</b> displays
the total number of times a banner or link has been displayed in the
given time period.');
2. define('TEXT_VISITS_HELP', '<b>Visits:</b> represents the total
number of click-throughs by visitors from your website.');
3. define('TEXT_TRANSACTIONS_HELP', '<b>Transactions:</b>
represents the total number of successful transactions credited to
your account.');
4. define('TEXT_CONVERSION_HELP', '<b>Conversions:</b> represents
the percentage of visitors (click-throughs) completing a
transaction.');
5. define('TEXT_AMOUNT_HELP', '<b>Amount:</b> represents the total
sales value of delivered orders credited to your account.');
6. define('TEXT_AVERAGE_HELP', '<b>Average:</b> represents the
average sales value credited to your account.');
7. define('TEXT_COMMISSION_RATE_HELP', '<b>Commission Rate:</b>
represents the rate you are paid for sales as a percentage.');
8. define('TEXT_COMMISSION_HELP', '<b>Commission:</b> represents
the total commission of delivered owed to you.');
-I have changed the affiliate_banners.php as you requested, but I
don't understand what do you mean by "affiliate link". Please,
explain.
-The homepage is not required any more to signup as an affiliate
Please, tell me if everything is ok to continue with the answer.

Hi Jose,
Yes, everything so far was done excellent.
By affiliate link, I mean the link of the affiliate that is logged on
and viewing the page at that time. For example, if David Rollins is
viewing the affiliate_banners.php page, it would show his link as:
http://www.thebatteryshoppe.com/index.php?ref=1
or if I logon and view the banners page it would show my link, which
at this time is:
http://www.thebatteryshoppe.com/index.php?ref=6
At this time, due to very bad weather, the server is down, but I hope
it will be back up tonight.
If you need me to explain more, let me know.
Thank you very much.

Hi Jose,
My battery web site www.thebatteryshoppe.com is online again so you
can continue work on it.
This graphic, www.thebatteryshoppe.com/bannerpage.JPG I believe more
accurately shows how I would like the link to look. This shows an
example if affiliate number 1 is logged on. Notice especially the
words "This is your affiliate link:" should be in the dark blue
heading, not the words "BUILD-A-LINK"
Thank you.

Hello,
I have fixed the User Link on the banners page, so each affiliate
see the right affiliate link.
And here are the answers to some of your individual questions:
B - This is the % rate for the first level of the tier, that is, the
first level affiliates will get that comission for each sale directly
from them. Read below to know how tiers work.
J - If this setting is true, you can set an individual percentage
per affiliate, this means that you can edit each affiliate account on
the admin panel and set the Payment % Rate to a different value for
each affiliate. If this setting is false or you don't set the value
for each affiliate independently, all affiliates will get the
percentage set on the "Affiliate Pay Per Sale Payment % Rate" option.
Also, individual payment rate cannot be set to a lower value than the
"global" Payment Rate.
E - This parameter can be understood as a "delay" to create invoices
for your affiliates, that is, when you start creating invoices for
your affiliates, you will only able to create invoices for orders
performed on the last XX days, being XX the value set for this
parameter. This is done to prevent you pay comissions to your
affiliates for refunded orders.
F - This is the minimum status an order must have to be accounted
for paying the commission to the affiliate, 1 means "Pending", 2 means
"Processing" and 3 means "Delivered", this is also to prevent you to
pay commissions for undelivered orders.
K - L - M - You have to fix these parameters, because the first
level of the tier it always exists, with a percentage set in - B - or
individually by affiliate, these parameters just set the parameters
for the "additional" tiers or levels. The get tiers work in the way
you want, you have to set "Number of tier levels" to 2 and the
"Percentage" to 4.00;2.00.
With these answers I have finished your requests for information,
now I start with development where is needed. Please, don't hesitate
to request additional information on these points, and very important,
please, post the full answer text to this question, I have been
contacted by Google Editors because of that.
Regards.

********************************
Below are the enhancements I see as necessary to properly manage my
affiliate program.
After you are signed up as an affiliate and log on, the first page
seen has eight links.
-1- These 8 links all cause the same run-time error. If I need to
make a description for each ?[?]? then where and what file do I put
those descriptions in? If these ?[?]? links already have a
description then please correct the run-time errors.
-2- On the page from the banners link above. Remove the ?Enter the
product number you wish to link to? and ?Build Link? option .
Instead, in its place I want to display the affiliate's full link with
the words ?This is your affiliate link: ?.
-3- Make the ?Homepage? input box optional instead of required. It
currently requires the affiliate to have a web site. I want people
without a web site to also be able to promote and receive commissions
on this program too.
-4- Please explain the proper settings of the admin configuration options:
-A- email address ? ok.
-B- Is this the total affiliate program rate or the rate of payout
for the first level?
Note: the way I want the affiliate program to work is that anyone who
signs up as an affiliate will be paid 8% of the invoice total (not
including shipping) of any sale from anyone from their web site or
other direct referral. For example if Mr. AA refers a customer named
Mr. BB then Mr. AA will receive a commission of 8% (except shipping
amount) of any invoice of Mr. BB. If Mr. BB refers Mr. CC and Mr. CC
makes a purchase, then Mr. BB will make 8% commission and Mr. AA will
make 4% commission. If Mr. CC refers Mr.DD and Mr. DD makes a
purchase, then Mr. CC will make 8% commission, Mr. BB will make 4%
commission and Mr. AA will make 2% commission. That is the goal of my
entire affiliate program. I hope you understand my explanation of this
3 tier affiliate program. A total of 14% in commissions will be paid
out to affiliates on each sale.
-C- ?Payment Threshold? - ok
-D- Cookie Lifetime: - ok
But I may require a little additional custom programming. I want two
things checked when a customer makes a purchase. First, to see if
they came from a referring web site link. If they did, the referring
information should always be recorded in the affiliate database so
proper commissions will be paid now and on future purchases. If they
did not just come from a referring web site link, then I want the
program to check the database to see if they came from a referring web
site some other time in the past. If they did, I want the commissions
due to the 3 tiers of affiliates properly recorded for payment. I do
not want any time limit on how long the 3 tiers of affiliates will
receive commissions on future purchases from the one referral.
-E- I don?t understand ?Billing Time? as it relates to the affiliate
program. Who is being billed in 30 days with this option, is it me by
paypal for the affiliates commission or is it the customers for their
purchase or is it affiliates must wait 30 days after an order is paid
before they get their commissions?
-F- Please explain how ?Order Min Status? relates to the affiliate
program. For example, does it right now mean an affiliate will only
get paid if they have sold 3 items? ? the affiliate personally or
their entire ?downline??
-G- -H- -I- - ok.
How do I ?export? the affiliate payments each month to a file that I
can run to print checks? Please provide a script that will do this if
not included in the affiliate module. If an affiliate is set up to be
paid by paypal, then I don?t want his information in the export file,
unless clearly marked ?Paypal? in some way.
-J- Please explain what an ?Individual Affiliate Percentage? is and
an example how I might effectively use it, especially when I can only
choose ?true? or ?false?.
-K- -L- -M- Have I set these correctly for my affiliate program
especially in relation to -B- above? I want to pay out total
commissions of 14% on any purchase. Am I duplicating because I set
the first level at 8% here and in the second line -B- above?
Reports:
-5- I want the affiliates to be able to view or print a report, from
their affiliate page, listing the names and web sites (if there is
one) of any affiliate under them and what level they are in relation
to them. The report should also list their sales and the sales amount
generated by each of their affiliates. The report should not list end
customers, only affiliates and the total sales amount generated by the
customers of each affiliate. The report should only go 3 levels deep
for any affiliate, and not more than one year back if they choose the
maximum time frame choice.
-6- As an administrator I need to be able to generate a similar
report of the entire affiliate customer program downline and their
relationships, sales, etc.
-7- And as an administrator I must be able to insert, change places,
and delete anyone anywhere inside the affiliate tree and maintain the
integrity of the affiliate tree. Please create a script or
modification to the program so I can do these tasks.
Emails:
-8- An affiliate should be able to broadcast an email to his entire
?downline? of 3 levels, although he doesn?t know their emails
individually. The affiliate should also be able to send an email to
any of his 3 ?upline? affiliate sponsors, although he may not be able
to see or know their email addresses.
These and the other comments on the job post are all part of this
project. Please test very thoroughly as money and peoples commissions
are involved in the above programming scripts. And if you have any
questions, please let me know.
Thank you.

Hello, stevep234:
Sorry for the delay, but I have been contacted again by Google

modifications I perform for you. That means that all the code
modifications I do, will be available for anyone. Because of that,
please, tell me if you understand this and should I continue with this

this way of work, please, tell me and we will discuss how close thise
question.
Also understand I don't want to break the researcher guidelines and
loose my account privileges.
Regarding the time frame for the rest of the question, I still need to:
- Check properly referers
- Afiliate payments report to a file (please, provide a sample layout for it)
- Affiliates self report of activity
- Administrator affiliate report
- Ability to reestructure the affiliate tree
- Affiliate e-mail broadcast
As you can see, still there is a lot of job here, so please, sort that
list in the order you want to get each feature to become operative.

22 Jun 2004 14:00 PDT
Hi Jose,
As you can see, I put the entire question here for google editors.
Now they want the code for the answers made public? My questions are
the following:
-1- How long must a zip file be available to the public?
-2- How does google answers deal with proprietary codeing work such as
secure shopping cart code, etc?
-3- Will any of your work make it easier for a very skilled programmer
to hack into my web site?
-4- What other forums do you recommend as apparently someone here is
very interested in obtaining your code you write for me which I do not
feel is "public domain" code. Do you ever use elance, osclance, etc?
Please let me know.
Continue working on the problem in the order you listed above and I
will arrange payments. I am sending an email to google editors to
find out how to have secure codeing done here.
Because they like everything public, please copy and post their emails
here so I can respond to them here properly.
Thank you.

Hello, stevep:
That's why I requested for your permission before continue on this
question. I think you should contact directly to google editors to
solve these issues, I'm sure they will come up with a solution for
you.
I'm my opinion, the key is that Google Answers is not "specifically" a
software design service, is a Question-Answer service, there are
another sites like RentaCoder and the ones you mention that are useful
for that purposes, so here, if there is a question, there must be a
"full" answer, and that answer must include the code.
Regarding your questions:
-1- It seems it must be available forever
-2- Don't know, please, contact Google Editors
-3- If my code modifications contain errors or security issues, that
would be possible
-4- I'm not allowed to contact you outside Google Answers, so I can't

Please, contact Google Editors directly, they will solve this issue. I

Hi Jose,
I did contact google editors, two times. This is their final unhelpful reply:
"Information posted to this site is made public because one of the
goals of Google Answers is to help as many people as possible find the
information they are looking for."
Apparently that includes my credit card payment information and code.
"You may continue to work with our Researchers to find answers to your
questions, i.e. code for your applications, but all code, like all
Research information found via Google Answers Researchers, must be
public."
When I asked, they would not tell me WHY all code "must be public",
especially when I am the one paying for it. That leaves me with no
solution. What do you suggest?

Regarding close this question, you have two options:
-Let me answer this question to get the money for the job I have done

Hi Jose,
I would like you to finish, but I was hoping you would come up with a
solution that will fulfill their disclosure requirement and keep the
code secure. For example, what if the code was posted in Chinese or
as an exe file or in binary machine language. Would that satisfy
google-censors posting requirements? Or suppose I was to edit the
question parameters. Just my possible suggestions. Anything that you
can suggest?
As you know, I have used this forum many times for my projects in the
past, and posting my code here publically has NEVER been a requirement
in the past.
I know the real cause of the problem is that someone wants to see this
code as used on my web site, and they probably contacted google
editors to force its disclosure. I suspect this is true because I was
already contacted by someone asking to see my code for this project.
They offered to make "minor changes free of charge" if I would "email
the scripts to them". Because I distrust that type of contact, I
especially do not want my payment processing code posted here
publically.
Let me know your solution, or should I just close the question? Then
we need to figure out what percent of the project you completed.
