Numerous online resources list Garrett, WA as either a city or a CDP
(census designated place). However, I live in this region and cannot
find any evidence of the existence of Garrett, WA. What is the origin
of this CDP and why does it exist in the U.S. census bureau database?

Hello Scotru

It does appear that Garrett, WA exists but it is very small (1000
people, 2.1 square miles)!

There are a few different websites that detail its existance and have
data on its location:

http://www.city-data.com/city/Garrett-Washington.html

http://censtats.census.gov/data/WA/1605326245.pdf

http://us-cities.realdictionary.com/Garrett-CDP-WA.asp

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&countryid=250&addtohistory=&searchtab=address&searchtype=address&address=&city=garrett&state=wa&zipcode=&search=++Search++

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&GridE=-120.4247872899&GridN=47.3995501156896&lon=-120.4247872899&lat=47.3995501156896&state=WA&db=US&pc=&overviewmap=&scale=4000000&lang=&client=public&cidr_client=none&advanced=&addr2=&place=Washington&addr3=garrett

Some of the reasoning behind CDP's can be found here:

I hope this information is useful to you. Should you require any
further assistance please ask for clarification and I will do all I
can to help.

Thanks for taking time to respond to my question. But what I'm really
looking for is what was Garrett's origin? How did it come into being?

I'm sorry, from your question I thought you wished to confirm the
existance of Garrett as you said you could not find any evidence of
it.

I will try to further my research and let you know here of anything I uncover.

By "cannot find any evidence" I meant I cannot find any physical
evidence at the indicated coordinates. That is when I drive to that
physical location I cannot find anything to indicate that this is a
town or a place with a name. I can find plenty of online evidence
(hence the "numerous online resources list Garrett"). Thanks for
continuing to look,

I understand... I have noticed a lot of small towns or cities do not
have name plates when they are close to larger cities and have begun
to merge into one.

As you are in the region, have you tried asking local residents or
libraries as to the location of Garrett? I am currently searching
through local Walla Walla county files for you but have not found any
more useful data. The best I have found is this (but it adds nothing
new):

http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Garrett%2c+Washington

Other places that you may find of use (if you could visit them) are:
http://www.fortwallawallamuseum.org/
http://www.ci.walla-walla.wa.us/community-info/index.htm
http://www.ci.walla-walla.wa.us/
http://www.ci.walla-walla.wa.us/departments/library/index.htm
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.washington.counties
http://hometown.aol.com/Gibson0817/
http://www.rootsweb.com/roots-l/USA/wa.html
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wawallaw/
http://www.walnet.walla-walla.wa.us/walpub/Default.html
http://www.wallawalla.com/Directory/WallaWalla.cfm?Section=Special%20Interest&DetailFlag=Off

It is usually easier for a person in the vicinity to do this kind of
research at local facilities (eg libraries and museums) rather than on
the net.

I will keep trying but I am losing hope!
