I am interested in compiling some statistics on the PCB (Printed
Circuit Board) Industry:
Please assist me in securing as many references to the following questions:
a. How many PCB's were imported into the United States in 2003
b. Of those PCB's imported, how many were returned for quality issues
(duty drawback/reject merchandise info)
c. What is the percentage of PCB orders that are delivered on time?
1-3 days late? Over 1 week late?
Looking forward to hearing back from someone on this matter.

As no one has been compelled to respond, I offer the following incentive:
I will offer 40.00 to any individual that can provide a qualitative
response to 1 of the 3 questions posed. To anyone willing to provide
a response to all three, I will pay 120.00.

I located the value of Printed Circuit Boards imports into the United
States (2000). Unfortunately I did not find the number of units
imported. Would this information interest you?

Hello oralbwantabee-ga,
In 2003, the U.S. imported 1,759,965,672 printed circuit boards with a
total value of $1,785,441,000 -- almost exactly a dollar per board!
The data can be broken out by country of origin (how many from Korea,
how many from China, etc), and to some extent, by the type of PCB
itself.
Data on imports (and exports, for that matter) are also available on a
wide variety of other electronic components such as smart cards,
integrated circuits, DRAM, SRAM, EEPROMs, etc.
I have not found any information on return rates, defects, on-time
delivery data, and so on.
Should I post the details of the import statistics as an answer to
your question? It does not provide everything you asked for in your
original question, although your later clarification suggests that
such information would be a valuable response.
Let me know.

Dear Bobbie7-ga,
Thank you for your posting, but the data is too dated for the purposes
of my research.
Sorry and thank you again.

Dear pafalafa-ga,
Thank you for your posting, and I'm glad my reclassification of my
question has created a response.
It would be ideal if you could answer at least two of the three
questions posted, as the information provided thus far is not enough
to satisfy the minimum requirements of this research project.
May I suggest that you search US Customs records for "duty drawback
for reject merchandise" for the PCB classification (imports are
tracked and reported; there must be a similar reporting mechanism for
exports)
If you can answer at least two questions, I would be glad to pay you 80.00.
Regards,

The Customs Bureau keeps a notoriously tight grip on their records. I
have repeatedly tried -- and failed -- to get statistical information
from them in the past, but to no avail.
Perhaps another researcher will have better luck on this one, and be
able to provide an answer that meets your requirements prior to the
expiration of this question in a few days.
Good luck.

I would like to thank all for their contributions to date, but if it
is seems to be the general consensus that only a small portion of my
requirement is readily available.
Unless anyone else can supply the required info, please consider this matter closed.
