I have a small Novell Netware v5 network in my office with 6 x Windows
98 clients, 2 x Windows 95 clients and 1 x XP Pro client which
connects successfully using Novell Client software v4.83.
I have just purchased a new Dell Dimension 4600 with XP Pro which I
also want to add to the network. I have downloaded the latest Novell
Client v4.9 but, after installation, when I attempt to login - it
can't locate my Netware Server, Tree or Context (which works fine on
all other systems). Am I missing something here?
If someone would please offer some advise - I would be grateful. |

Hi cbowring,
Have you downloaded any Service Packs for v4.9?
Thanks,

Hi Hummer -
I've actually made some progress with this one (if you can call it progress).
I removed v4.9 and installed an older client - v4.83 which worked first time.
Obviously - I'd really like to install the latest Client on the system
so your help is still needed.

Hi Chris,
I'm still thinking about the Service Packs & Patches for v4.9 - how
far did you get with that?
Thanks,

Am I entitled to download Service Packs from Novell?
Our Server software is Netware 5 and our Support Contract has long run out.
If yes - do you have a URL?
Do I take it that the Service Pack should make 4.9 Client see the Server?
Thnaks

Hi cbowring,
You can read the long list of fixes for SP1 here:
http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10087831.htm
Have a look here - a possible cause for your troubles?:
"Tree or server not found" error on bootup and immediate login -

I don't know if updating would help but it's always a good place to
start. I'll open this up to other researchers in the hopes that
someone will have a solution.
