Hello Jean
I believe this error has been caused because the following files have
been corrupted when the computer switched off suddenly.
To rectify this problem try doing this:
1) Close Outlook Express
2) Press Start->Search and search for "Inbox.dbx" and "Sent Items.dbx"
on your computer.
3) Make copies of each of these files, they should be where you store
your Outlook Express Identities. (To do this right click on the file
and select copy, then go to your desktop and press Paste.)
4) Delete the originals of these (not the ones copied onto your
desktop, the desktop ones are just in case something goes wrong - you
can delete them if the solution works!). (To delete the files right
click on them in the Search window and select delete.)
5) Run Outlook Express - this should automatically recreate the files
you have deleted and solve your problem.
This fix was based on the information found here:
http://support.aladdinsys.com/techsupport/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1144
Hopefully this will fix your problem, if not please ask for
clarification and I will try to find another solution for you. Please
ask for clarification also if you are unsure of anything. |

I have copied your try at rectifying my problem and pressed the Start
key. Only problem is I do not have a FIND button to press nor a Files
or Folders button. Thereafter nothing else is the same either. I
have Windows XP Home Version which I am using. Does that make a
difference? Please give it another try?
Thank you Jean35-ga

Hello Jean
In Windows XP, the shortcut to the search facility should be Win-F
(that is press the key with the Windows symbol on it on your keyboard
- usually underneath your left hand as you type - and keep it pressed
while pressing the 'F' key).
This should open another window, click All Files and Folders and enter
the item required.
Let me know if this helps, I wasn't sure what you meant in your
clarification that you "do not have a FIND button to press nor a Files
or Folders button".

I have also found this solution for a very similar error number which
proposes the same solution that I am. It is from the Microsoft site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;fr;q255064
It also has an alternative way of removing the inbox/sent items files.

I have tried everything you have suggested and I still get the same
error message every time. I'm about to give up. Thanks for trying.

Hi Jean
I am surprised that deleting those files has not fixed the problem.
The only other thing I can think to do is to reinstall Outlook Express
- I hate to suggest this as it does not let us find out exactly what
the problem is. Have you tried doing this?
