It is generally ilegal to allow any of the pets you mentioned (except cats) to run free = leash law. Enforcement is often lax, especially in rural communities. Thus it will be difficult to distinguish between indoor pets and outdoor pets. It will also be difficult to distnguish cattle as pets from cattle for income/ most are the latter. Horses are popular for riding, 90% of USA horses could be classed as pets. Perhaps 5% are hopefuls for horse racing. Odd breeds of chicken ie banties, ginnie hens, ducks, geese, peacocks, pigeons and rabbits are pets, as are a few small varieties of pigs, goats, buros, donkies, jackasses, lammas, and mules. Each probably number in the thousands rather than millions as pets in the USA. Neil |
