In my view, the term "standard of living" encompasses much more than
just monetary income. It takes into account expenses, as well as
income, and may also include factors related to the ease and comfort
of life.

I would say that it's possible to have an adequate income, yet have an
unsatisfactory standard of living because of various societal,
geographic, and personal conditions. I don't think the reverse is
true; a person cannot have a good standard of living without having
sufficient income to cover basic such human needs as food and shelter.
