Question ID: 36104
I'm looking for some marketshare breakdown such as:-

- market share between IE/Netscape from 1998 - 2002 in general market
- market share between IE/Netscape from 1998 - 2002 in the Education
Market (k-12)
- Netscape users- latest count - ....how many are there and what's the
breakdown between between the Version 4.7 and Version 6.2 users.

Need whatever reports on Netscape/IE/Marketshare/Education Vertical
you can find.

Sooner the better.

Thanks

Hi,

The browser wars were really at their peak in 1998 and most of the
detailed material is from that time period. Since then, Netscape has
seen their overall market share shrink to less than 10%, and there
just isn't the same demand for detailed statistics.

I was able to find specific figures for overall marketshare from 1998
- present, and a single statistic about relative education marketshare
from early 1998.(It appears that IDG did a comprehensice vertical
study about this time.) I also found a collection of over 40 articles
discussing browser marketshare from 1996- present. I was not able to
find statistics comparing the share of 4.7 vs. 6.2, either.

If it would be of use, I could provide you with the above plus a
relatively large (million hits a week) non-profit website's stat's
from the last month on 4.7 vs. 6.2 browser share, as well as browser
share coming from only the .us (k-12) and .edu domains. However, that
seems to only answer a limited portion of your question.

http://www.statmarket.com has the most accurate statistics. I
wouldn't use anyone else's. However, they charge for their reports
:-(

Many view NetCraft ( http://www.netcraft.com/survey/ ) as having the
most accurate statistics in browser marketshare.

Hi pkp-ga

I suppose. I'd be interested in learning about the .us and .edu
browswer statistics you mentioned as a start. Based on that, I can
repost a more specific question.

Thanks

Just a comment, many non-IE browsers (Netscape, Opera) are able to
change their browser identification to IE, so most likely IE's stat
will be much exagerated. To make it more confusing, almost all
browsers' identification can be changed to something purely different,
mostly for privacy concern.
