I am a nursing student in the masters program at he University of PA.
I was able to find out how many American tourists travel to the
Caribbean and Puerto Rico by paying a small fee and getting the latest
tourism statistics through the Caribbean Tourism Orginisation. (Yes,
that is how they spell orginization)The information covered cruise
ship visitors and over night stay visitors from 32 Caribbean
countries. I did ask them the question I am about to ask you now and
they e-mailed me back that they did not have that information. What I
need to know is how many of those Americans that travel to the
Caribbean and to Puerto Rico become ill, are hospitalized, and how
many (or what percentage) of this population are air evacuated back to
the American mainland.I have searched in many places. American Express
has a special policy to cover travel medical expenses outside the US.
I called the International Assistance Coordinator, and although they
were very informative, they told me they did not keep those statistics.
I am thinking that you will need to research the insurance companies
that pay for the air medical evacuation. My project is due in less
than 2 weeks. I have been working on this for 1 month and have proved
unsuccessful. That's where you come in. If you go to
http://travel.state.gov/medical.html .... you will find a list of
several insurance companies that provide this air evacuation service.
I used to work for Aero-Jet International (as stated in "Subject"
above). The owner has been very, very good about answering all my
questions;however, he does not keep statistics on this information
either. I believe that he does the most business in the Caribbean and
Puerto Rico, at least, in Florida. I also need to know how many
Canadians are air evacuated from Florida back to Canada.I know that
this occurs quite frequently because of socialized medicine, it is
less expensive to treat them in Canada than in the states. I will be
checking my e-mail frequently.Any tables or graphs would be most
excellent. My professor loves these. It would also be great if I could
find out how many cruise ship passengers are air lifted back to the
states. I also would like to know how many of these cruise ship
passengers are elderly. Good Luck and thank-you. Audrey
