Question ID: 361202
I would like to purchase a Via C3 processor, 1ghz or higher, with a
recent version of the Nehemiah core. Need it shipped to the USA, so a
US/Canada company is preferable. Basically, I need one of the versions
of the processor that supports AES encryption/decryption. I've been
informed that the processor needs to be Stepping 8 or higher, although
I'm not positive if that's correct. I've searched far and wide, and am
not finding anyone selling a CPU that does AES in hardware, so I'll
hand it off to you guys.

For a starting point of what I'm looking for, see:

http://www.via.com.tw/en/viac3/c3.jsp

They refer to it as the 'PadLock' technology. I've tried the resellers
listed on their site to no avail.

Oh, I suppose I should mention pricing. :) I'd like to pay no more
than US$50 (plus shipping) for the processor,

I don't suppose you're looking for this:
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=VIAC3-1G-N&c=pw ($33)

(Found it on www.pricewatch.com)

I've already been in contact with that company, and they can't verify
if it's the old version of the processor, or the new version.
Unfortunately, VIA didn't change the product codes or anything; they
just up'ed the stepping level, and eWiz says they can't guarantee
which version of the processor they send out.

ewiz.com has a 7 day return policy on CPU's. Is that adequate to test?
The only reason I'm even asking is that (as you also have found) it's
the only Nehemiah processor that is on Pricewatch, and even Via's
distributors don't seem to have this part.

I actually ended up finding laptops4me.com via Froogle, and gave them
a call - they ship fresh stock of the processor direct from VIA
apparently, so it should be the proper processor. I ordered one from
there.

If you'd like, though, you can submit your last comment as an answer,
and I'll give you credit for it - don't want you to not get paid for
the work you did.

Oh! Didn't realize that. :) Well, thanks for the comments then -
I'll just go ahead and close the question.
