Hi retssel,

Yes, skateboarding in Italy is legal and recommended. :)

(The following site is written in Italian, However you can go to
BabelFish at AltaVista.com: http://world.altavista.com/

and copy and paste the link http://www.skatemap.it/ where it says:
"Translate a Web page" for English Translation.

You'll see a small window to "Select to and From translation". Scroll
down to Italian to English.)

Skatemap Italy
http://www.skatemap.it/

On the left side of page you'll see Flash Map - Click on any of the
red dots for cities.

Or, on the top of the page you'll see SkateMap - "Where do you wanna skate today?"
Click on the down arrow for cities.

For example when I clicked on Napoli... I was taken to the following page:
http://www.skatemap.it/napoli.asp

Pomigliano d'Arco:
SkatePark Mover:, 3 fun-box, box-rail, quartes di varie altezze, mini
half pipe 2.20mt. Email: park@complab.com

***** Note *****

If you wish to view any page at Skatemap in English you'll go back and
forth between Babelfish and Skatemap.

For example if you wish to view the Roma page in English you'll first
access the page in Italian, copy the address (URL) of the page
http://www.skatemap.it/roma.asp then go to

http://world.altavista.com/ and paste the link
http://www.skatemap.it/roma.asp where it says: "Translate a Web
page" for English Translation. You'll see a small window to "Select
to and From translation". Scroll down to Italian to English.)

Slamtrick Skateboard Competition in Italy, June 18-20 2004
http://skateboarddirectory.com/articles/483719_slamtrick_skateboard.html

Ferrara, Italy * Organizers report that the 2004 * SlamTrick
international skateboarding contest has been arranged and will take
place June 18th through 20th 2004 in Mezzano and Marina Di Ravenna.

The ingredients which helped the 2003 * event will be repeated,
including the best trick contest, the invite-only competition formula,
and an international jury.

On June 19th, some of the world's best vert skaters will meet at the
Marianna Hardcore Skatepark * of Mezzano to compete on the collossal
'casa zattoni' skate structure, which is reportedly "among the ten
highest ones" in the world. "Giorgio", host of the competition and
'undisputed winner of the last two editions to keep the sceptre', will
try to retain his crown against all newcomers and competitors.

On June 20th in Marina Di Ravenna at The Tavern Bukowski there will be
a street contest. To take place in the 'historic structure of oasi
skatepark', this year's event will feature 'renewed and enriched'
obstacles by ramp designer Marco Morigi.

June 18th has been set aside for skaters to practice on the competition facilities.

The official sponsors are Globe *, Carhartt, Stussy, and Zoo York *.
The event is organised in collaboration with the municipalities of
Ravenna and Emilia Romagna.

Event organizer Slam Jam is an Italian 'street wear' clothing company
founded by Luca Benini that started with the Troop brand, which the
company says was worn in the late 1980s by artists such as LL Cool J
and Public Enemy. Later adding and developing clothing brands
including Stussy, Fresh Jive, and Carhartt, Slam Jam has had "a
complete internal division entirely devoted to action sports, such as
skating, surfing, snowboarding and BMX" since the "mid-1990s". The
company also says that another key feature of their strategy is what
they call "the laboratory -- a number of emerging brands which
epitomise a strong sense of style and innovative design, the most
prominent of which are Silas and Supreme."

BEACH4FUN, BEACH SPORTS EVENT, CONCLUDES IN OSTIA

Rome, Apr. 5th (Adnkronos) The three- day beach sports event,
Beach4Fun, organized by the Ostia Corallo Beach was quite successful
and there was a significant presence of beach and beach sports
enthusiasts. In fact, 13,000 people took advantage of the first
sporting event of the season on the Rome beach to see the beach
volley, beach tennis and skateboard champions. There was only one
negative point, the lack of wind, that penalized the kitesurf
champions who however had the occasion to test their equipment before
the beginning of the season.

Diadora and Asolo of Benetton Sportsystem gave some careful thought to
recreational footwear this year. Asolo has come up with lines
available in nubuk or suede for less strenuous excursions, while
Diadora created two distinct lines: one more technical line of three
incredibly lightweight models, and a second line dedicated to the
tribe of street cool. Informal and versatile, this last collection has
been drawn from the world of neighborhood street sports which are now,
if somewhat later than in the United States, driving the kids crazy
all over Italy: skates, in-line skates, skateboards and snow boards.

"... open market only shows its face on Sundays from dawn until two in
the afternoon, but it's the only place in Rome where you can find
absolutely anything. Tape measures, zippers, umbrellas, picture
frames, knickknacks, tennis racquets, tea pots, telescopes, boat
anchors, rugs, stamps, steel wool, chandeliers, skateboards, paintings
and panty hose make up only a small part of the chaotic buying
adventure of Porta Portese. New, old and very old, it's all mixed,
stacked, heaped and piled into a frenzy of colorful clutter.

In Italy, the teenagers skateboard over the marble pavements within
the Renaissance arcades, and take-away pizzerias operate from within
17th-century facades. Even the ubiquitous McDonalds is forced to sell
burgers and fries from within a similar setting without erecting its
usual garish trademarks.

Actually skateboarding is un-legal in Italy except in places provided
by the city council, according to the new "Codice della strada" -
http://www.motorold.it/notizieutili/codicestrada/1.htm

Nonetheless is well tolerated, except some rare time skater are sent
away: http://www.skatecoffee.net/filez/cacciatoforo.htm
