My wife and I are both young professionals who like to travel (I was
formerly a transactional attorney but hated it and my wife does
clerical work). What kind of husband-wife jobs are available (no on
the circus or being an evangelist) for professional wages in the U.S.
where we could travel, say, a regional route, by car, where we would
be on the road continually for a couple of years? (We have heard
about working for cosmetic companies traveling from mall to mall to do
training, track inventory, and pump up sales, but I'm not sure I'm
technically qualified although it's something I know I could handle.)
If the pay is good enough, the wife wouldn't necessarily have to work.
She would just join me for the ride and assist. Thanks.

Hello, brachvogel-ga!
The first thought that came to mind when I saw this question was for
both of you to become manufacturers reps for some products in
categories you enjoy. I live in a town full athletes and sports
enthusiasts and know many manufacturers reps. They enjoy the travel,
pick their territory, and represent products in which they have a
personal interest. Would a job like this be of interest?
Do you have any specific interests/hobbies/dreamjobs you can
highlight which would help us to come up with some ideas?

Here are the things that I find of interest:

1. Books/Magazines, Reading, Literature/History, etc.
2. Baseball is my passion but I probably know Basketball better having
lettered three times in High School.
3. Current Events/Public Policy/Political Handicapping (but I don't
want a campaign job).
4. Solved problems for a living while being a transactional lawyer.
5. Love to write and edit (yes, I know, this clarification needs some editing).

Bottom line, I would enjoy a situation where I would travel around
with a managerial and sales role. Would be fun to measure and boost
performance for my team.

Wife's interests:

1. Books/Magazines, etc.
2. Pop Culture.
3. Fashion.
4. Restaurants and gourmet markets--she's a real foodie (like Whole
Foods and Wolfgang Puck, not Safeway and Applebees and Olive Garden).
Loves Food Network, but because of career lifestyle, doesn't get to
cook as often as she would like.
5. Event Planning experience.

Does this help? Please keep asking for clarifications if needed. Key
is to figure out if there is any demand for my skill-set that will pay
me around six figures and allow me to travel in car with wife (and
hopefully have her pitch in on the job so that she can grow her
career) with expenses paid.

And again, we are looking for something regional in scope not
something that is a 60-mile loop from our front door.

Re: CZH-GA's comment about truck driving: love the idea, but the MRS.
could never drive a rig (she can barely drive on the interstate now),
and I was looking for something that takes into account some of the
skills I picked up as an attorney (project management,
problem-solving, client/customer contact, etc.). Also, professional
wages are important (and if I'm the only one who's driving, that makes
it tough).
