Question ID: 361392
Is there a search engine that will search the html code of web pages,
rather than their actual displayed content?

Clarification of Question by macaonghus-ga on 06 Jul 2004 03:59 PDT
I know about view source, this is not what I want.

Also, although search engines do search html, they don't for example
search html comments. Or I can't search web pages to see which were
built in Fusion. oR if they contain a non-displayed link to a
particular website (eg an image link to amazon).

So I need a search engine that really searches the html code.

Almost all the search engines are intially reading HTML tags and then
converting this into display.

Do you require a code which read HTML tags from a specific URL?

I require a method of searchng the code of web apges. Eg if I want to
find a word in a comment that wont show up in the web page but is in
the html code.

As of right now this type of search is something I too would like to
do. Just as google allows you to search for text that appears in the
URL or in a page title by using inurl:<search term> or intitle:<search
term>, I would like to see a inhtml:<search term> functionallity.

All search engine search the html code of web pages, rather than their
actual displayed content.

If you apply tricks like making the background color and content color
as same and try to boost the keyword SE realize them and penalize you
for similar staff. This proofs that SE does not bother of what is
displayed content but it sees the code and then bother of giving more
importance to displyed contents like Bold, headings..

Hope this helps
