I have a recurring problem w/an intrusive 'program' that impacts my
ability to search for certain items, and especially if I am trying to
access specific portions of a website. It alse inserts itself into
text when editing posts on various publishers' forums. It is
"search.targetword.com" (quotation marks are mine). I have been
unable to rid it from my system. It highlites certain key or target
words such as 'job', 'car', 'hotel', travel', and so on,

I use SpyBot S&D, McAfee Security, Google popup blocker on my Gooogle
toolbar, and have dumped the Yahoo toolbar out of my PC. Lycos
occasionaly pops up and screws things up a little. I have Internet
Explorer, MSN Hotmail, Windows XP 6.1, and a high speed cable modem
hookup. Any suggestions. I wnat to rid my PC of this and
prevent it's reoccurance. This is driving me crazy ! Thanks
so much

This happens because you have installed extra software for browser extensions

For disabling this go to Internet Explorer Menu

Tools-->>Internet options->>Advanced->>
in the "Browsing" section,

uncheck enable third party browser extensions(requires restart)

Close all IE and open...

I had a similar problem, There was a spyware on my computer that
would add its own results in results returned by google..

Try to use the SpySweeper software to remove spyware from your computer..
its available at http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php
