Hi, I enjoy using your site and have it as my 'home page' in IE.
Recently, in March and two days ago, I used addurl to have my web pages
indexed. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have worked! Could you
please investigate?

Thanks!
Bruce
bruce_backman@hotmail.com

Specifics: Try keyword: 'goobi' . It returns a site @ the NIST in the
US.
Using altavista it returns my site
http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~bruce &
http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~bruce/Paper_describing_the_Goobi_and_Goxbi.html
http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~bruce/Binary_prefixes_and_two_numbers.html
. These are the two site the I've used 'addurl' for.

Greetings, Bruce!

In fact, Google has indexed your site and a great many of your subpages!
://www.google.com/search?q=%22%2Bwww.csse.uwa.edu.au/~bruce%22&filter=0

Further, one of the papers has indeed been indexed.

The Paper Describing The Goobi and Goxbi :

The reason no description appears on the Google Search page for your
paper is that you need to add an HTML <meta> description tag to your
page (in front of all of your other <meta> tags), in the form
<meta name="Description" content=".....">
where ..... is the description that you would like Google to show for
this page. One short or long sentence, or two short sentences, is the
ideal length for this field.

This may be the reason that your paper does not show up in a search for "goobi".

Try adding the <meta> tag and resubmitting to be crawled again by the Googlebot at:

You may need to wait up to 30 days to see the changes appear.

In addition, the last link that you provided does not appear to be
correct. If you can provide the correct link, I can investigate it for
you.

Before Rating my Answer, if you have any Questions about the above
information, please post a Request for Clarification, and I will be
glad to see what I can do for you.

I hope that this Answer provides exactly the information you were seeking!

Hi Ace,
Excellent information. I was confused about where the Meta tag for
"description" went. Thank You. 3 Clarification questions...

1) With the keywords option, do I separate multiple keywords with a
','? Also, what if I have a 2 or multiple keyword such as "New
Waterford"? Do I just put them between commas with no quotes?
2) Can you please summarise the options google provides for finding
out more about what other sites are doing with my information? Such as
"link: ... ", etc.

Cheers!

','? Also, what if I have a 2 or multiple keyword such as "New
Waterford"? Do I just put them between commas with no quotes?

<meta> Keywords are no longer the big issue that they used to be;
webmasters were spamming huge lists of words -- many of them
non-relevant -- so Google and some other search engines have minimized
the weight that they carry. Thus, I recommend doing a decent job with
them, but not over-stressing about them.

Keywords should describe what's really on the page; in other words, if
a keyword doesn't appear in the text of the page, it shouldn't appear
in the keyword list, either. Do you realize that the words/phrases
"googol, Computer Vision, Medical Visualization, Computer-Integrated
Surgery, Image-Guided Surgery, Medical Robotics, 3D-Registration, Soft
Tissue Deformation Modelling, SVD, Hierarchical Registration, Swelling
Simulation" appear nowhere in the text of your home page? If they're
relevant, you may want to re-work the text on your home page;
otherwise, remove the keywords from your list.

Likewise, phrases such as "binary numbers" and "binary prefixes"
should appear in your keyword list, but do not.

Keywords are not case-sensitive. Multiple part keywords are entered as
a phrase followed by a comma.

Keywords on each page should be tailored to **that** specific page.

Your <meta> description tag should be located **in front of all of
your other <meta> tags**.

2) Can you please summarise the options google provides for finding
out more about what other sites are doing with my information? Such as
"link: ... "

There really isn't any other Google function similar to "link:" other
than the "pages that contain" link that appears when you enter your
URL into the Google search text box:
-------------------------------------------------
www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~bruce

Google can show you the following information for this URL:

Find web pages that are similar to www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~bruce
Find web pages that link to www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~bruce
Find web pages that contain the term "www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~bruce"
-------------------------------------------------
://www.google.com/search?q=www.csse.uwa.edu.au%2F%7Ebruce
