Hello! When you get the
"THE DOCUMENT NAME Or PATH IS NOT VALID, TRY THESE SUGGESTIONS:
1. CHECK THE FILE PERMISSIONS FOR THE DOCUMENT OR DRIVE.
2. USE THE FILE OPEN DIALOG BOX TO LOCATE THE DOCUMENT"
There are a few things you can do to figure this out. First of all,
locate the original copy of the document. A shortcut can lead to a
original file that has been deleted and therefore won't open.
Make sure you have not re named the file and you're trying to open
something that does not exist. For example, let's say you had a file
named AAA.doc on your C drive, and then had a shortcut to AAA.doc on
your desktop. You renamed the original AAA.doc on your C drive to
BBB.doc, but, the shortcut on your desktop says AAA.doc, it will not
open it, even though the shortcut path is correct, because the
original now has a different name.
Also, make sure the original document is not hiding out in your recycle bin.
And, last but not least, when you locate the original file, make sure
the permissions and setting allow you to open the file.
However, without finding the correct file on your computer that you
want to open, it may not be possible to solve this.
You could do a computer search from the start menu and look for all
files that end in .doc
You could refine this search even more if you know when the document
was created or last modified. That way, if it's in the recycle bin,
moved somewhere else, or with a different name, you could look at all
the .doc files to try and locate the one you need if it's incognito :)
Normally, those suggestions solve the problem most of the time, it's
usually just a small glitch.
If this answer requires further explanation, please request
clarification before rating it, and I'll be happy to look into this
further.
