I am looking for a childrens book but have been unsuccesfull to find
any copy or even mention of it. I thought the title of the book was
"Where's Golden Bug." Some other possibilites would be "Find
Golden Bug" "Where is Gold Bug" or "Find Gold Bug." It was a hardback
book that was almost 100% illustrations. I remeber the cover being
yellow. On each page you had to find the golden bug. This book
pre-dates Where's Waldo. It was my favorite book growing up it was
most likely published in the 70s. I would appreciate any help you can
give to help me find the correct title or better yet a copy. --- Thank
you.

Dear davefink,

Was it a book about automobiles? And was the "Gold Bug" actually a
tiny golden Volkswagen Beetle, hiding somewhere in each picture?

Regards,
Scriptor

Actually Yes I do believe there were vehicles in the book. I remeber
construction vehicles. I'm not exactly sure if Gold Bug wes
representative of a VW though it is highly possible. I remember him
(Gold Bug) being very simplistic. He was a yellow half cirle with a
smiley face in the middle. I belive he also had two antena. Hope that
helps.

Hello.

It sounds like you're describing Richard Scarry's "Cars and Trucks and
Things That Go" (1974).

This is a "Where's Waldo?"-style book featuring "Goldbug."

See these various descriptions on Barnes and Noble:

"My children, now young adult men, would never let me say goodnite
without looking for the Goldbug on every page..."
"...Who cares where the heck Waldo is, let's look for the Goldbug."
http://btobsearch.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbninquiry.asp?isbn=9780307157850

And on Amazon.com:

"It's also teeming with detail-rich scenes and characters on every
page, teaching children the rewards of looking long and closely (such
as finding the hidden "Goldbug" in each spread)..."
" In this day of DVD, VCR it is a thrill to have children so engrossed
looking for Gold Bug..."
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0307157857/

-------
search strategy:
"find gold bug"
"find goldbug"

I hope this is the book that you had in mind. If not, please let me
know via the "request clarification" feature. Thanks.

Hi,

I was posting the answer, so I missed your 11:13 clarification.

Yes, "Cars and Trucks and Things That Go" is definitely the right book
as the smiley-faced bug with antennae is fictured on a sequel called
"Goldbug and Company"

"Richard Scarry's delightful Goldbug character stars in his very first book."

Thank you for the tip.

I notice that I provided the wrong link for "Goldbug and Company," the
sequel in which the Goldbug character stars:

Sorry about that, and thanks again!

You were correct with the first title "Cars and Trucks and Things that
Go" - but hey thats cool there is a sequel. Maybe I'll grab that for
my son as well. Thanks again - you really made my day.
