IBM Thinkpad 600e 400Mhz. gives error code 0174 each time I power up. I recently purchased it with no operating system, and found that the CMOS battery was dead, so I replaced the battery. I run a system check using F1 on power up and everything checks o.k. I set the boot sequence to floppy first, CD Rom second and hard drive third, it won't boot from windows 98 cd or from windows startup floppy disc. I know that the origional BIOS version is still in the machine, I also know that error 0174 is some kind of configuration error, but I don't know how to fix it so that I can load windows, please help. posted by hardboil1 |

I too had a similar problem, but while installing windows XP. I found out this is from a dead battery(main battery). i removed it from the system and tried installing OS. it worked. Hope it will work for you too. |
