I need to find a hardware firewall that is as small as possible.
The firewall must do NAT.
It should be smaller than a fist (about 8 cubic inches I suppose).
Obviously it must be remotely managed (from the inside).

I remember a brochure from a Canadian company about an "inline" device
(it had one upstream port & one downstream port; you plugged it in
between the computer and the ethernet jack) which had an additional
feature - after n minutes of inactivity, it performed an automatic
hardware disconnect. I don't remember if it met all the requirements
above.

NAT is a requirement. THe Linksys firewall does not appear to do NAT.
The Iappliance looks possible.
Cost is not a problem.

However thank you both.

mcwalla-ga:

The device you recall reading about was probably the Alphashield NAAS-01:

However, it does not support NAT:

Will the device be used to protect a single IP device, or are you
looking for the NAT to support multiple local devices over a single
external address? In which case, would the device also need to be your
DHCP server?

As well, can you say whether the device must support a wired device,
or are wireless routers like the one mentioned in the comments
acceptable?

I found a reference to what you may want, but I don't think you'll
like the price (~$429+), if you can get it...

http://www.innominate.com/pro_mguard_gateway.html

Its dims are 0.8 x 2.4 x 4 inches, which, frankly, I'm pretty sure
isn't easily going to be beat.
