Dear research_help-ga: Thank you very much for the basic information. 
I will proceed to contact the major carriers in Atlanta. (I am
withdrawing my question.)

Most major airlines in the U.S. offer a bereavement fare for people
travelling to a hospital or funeral where someone is close to death or
has died.  The fare is typically half of the current fare for the
itinerary.  The airline will typically ask for the name of the patient
and the hospital or funeral home name and city and may call to verify.
