Question ID: 362687
I am looking for a ZIP+4 CD which works with AddressMate, an old Costar product.
The CD-ROM may have been produced by Pitney Bowes.
Where can I find it?
How do I get a hold if it?

investigation...

The CD-ROM was, indeed, produced by Pitney Bowes, however
a search of the Pitney Bowes website now shows no returns
whatsoever for 'CD'.

Costar transitioned into Dymo Costar, and the name is now
simply Dymo. A search on the Dymo site for 'Addressmate'
comes up empty.

However, Dymo has a free software tool that integrates with
MS Word, and provides address correction and ZIP+4 features:

"DYMO's amazing new Address Fixer automatically checks any
US address against the USPS master database while you're
connected to the internet. Mistakes are automatically
corrected, the ZIP+4 is added, and formatting is adjusted
to Post Office standards. This speeds mail delivery and
 eliminates returned mail."

"Address Fixer works as a stand-alone Windows utility, or
with Microsoft Word, Palm OS4 and higher and the latest
 DYMO LabelWriter software."

Perhaps this will help? Let me know...

I actually need the ZIP+4 CD and program which works with the old
version (pre- 1998), so this new version is not useful.
Also: I already asked Dymo for help, but they did not have it and
were not helpful.
Thanks though.

Dear Investigator,

This is not my habbit to provide what might be seen as "trail answers"
or to give away my hard labour for free, especially not for a $100
answer. However, I trust you, to tell me if the solution worked for
you, and if so, to let me post it as an answer and claim my fee.

BPMUG Library ("The Computer Users Group for Central Connecticut")
holds a copy of the "updated" (with the Zip+4 update) software.

Politicalguru: I contacted BPMUG, and they say they no longer have
it. But please help me with other ideas, as I just cannot seem to
find this thing!

Investigator -

I will help you, gladly. But I just thought of something: this
programme came with a database that upadted itself. Now that it
doesn't exist anymore, the database also doesn't update itself for
this programme, and therefore, the addresses might not be up to date,
which is the reason you wanted this on the first place. Think about
it: you get the CD, but the database is from 1996. What do you do
then?

Politicalguru: I am aware of this. I still need it, and I don't care
about the old data on the CD.
Thank you!

hummer: I have considered this. I do need the CD-ROM which works
with this old version of Addressmate (even though it will give me old
data).
Thanks for the idea, though.

Thank you for the link to eBay. It doesn't look lie the right thing,
but I've asked the seller a question so maybe....
