Cincinatti, OH,called Petermann. The company provides school bus

Hello.

On April 28, 1999, Laidlaw sued Peter Settle and his new company
Petermann. Laidlaw alleged that Settle had interfed with Laidlaw's
relationship with its customers. Specifically, Laidlaw alleged that
Settle lured away a Laidlaw customer, the Hamilton County Board of
Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. Laidlaw further
alleged that Settle (and Petermann) were competing to serve another
Laidlaw customer, the West Clermont County School District. Laidlaw
demanded damages of at least $450,000 and sought to keep Settle from
using confidential financial information that Settle would have had
from his time as an executive at Laidlaw.

See:
"Laidlaw Transit Inc. is demanding damages of at least $450,000 from
defendants Peter J. Settle and his new competing company, Petermann
Ltd.
Laidlaw is requesting court orders to prohibit Settle from interfering
with Laidlaw's relationship with its customers and to keep Settle from
using any of the confidential financial information Settle would have
had from his executive job with Laidlaw.
Laidlaw filed the lawsuit Wednesday in U.S. District Court. It said
Settle lured away one Laidlaw customer - the Hamilton County Board of
Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities - this month and is
competing to serve a second, the West Clermont County School
District."

Further details of the case are available through the U.S. District
Court, Ohio Southern District, Electronic Case Filing system:

You'll need to obtain a PACER account to access those details directly.

I have a PACER account, so I was able find quite a bit of information
about the case.

The title of the case was:
Laidlaw Transit Inc v. Peter J Settle and Petermann Limited

The Case Number was: 1:99-cv-00310-SSB-TSH

Laidlaw Transit Inc was represented by the following attorneys:

James M Penney, Jr

Peter J Settle and Petermann Limited were represented by:

Todd Hunter Bailey

Suite 2800
Cincinnati, OH 45202

The case was assigned to Judge Sandra S. Beckwith, and later to
Magistrate Judge Timothy S. Hogan.

I'll summarize the key events in the case:

04/28/1999
Plaintiff Laidlaw filed a 14-page complaint against Peter J Settle and
Petermann and demanded a jury trial.

05/18/1999
Defendants Peter J Settle and Petermann filed a 6 page answer to
plaintiff's complaint and demanded a jury trial

07/12/1999
Mag. Judge Timothy S. Hogan ordered the following:
    Discovery deadline set for 3/31/00 ;
    Final pretrial conf scheduled for 8/00 ;
    Trial scheduled for 9/00 ;
Parties to exchange witness lists and summaries by 2/29/00

03/03/2000
Plaintiff and defendants file a 2-page Notice of Dismissal With
Prejudice
    (Entered: 03/06/2000)

What this means is that the case was settled out of court in March
2000. Although a trial had been set for September 2000, it never
happened. "Dismissal With Prejudice" means that the claim of the
plaintiff (Laidlaw) was closed and and that the same claim cannot be
brought again by Laidlaw against Settle and Petermann. As such,
Laidlaw and Settle obviously worked out a mutually acceptable
compromise. The exact details of the settlement are probably
confidential.

If you'd like to obtain more information about the case and inquire
about obtaining documents related to the case, you should contact the
clerk of the Court. Again, the case number was 99-cv-00310-SSB-TSH

I hope this helps.
