In the summer of 1968 or 1969 James Taylor performed on an afternoon
variety show. I think it was the Merv Griffin Show. He sang an
antiwar song, which he described as a fragment, a song he was unable
to finish. Do I remember that show correctly, and what was the name
of the fragment (was it or did it become "Soldiers")?
