Question ID: 363184
I got my new HP computer a week ago. When I am on AOL and click on
anything on my home page (such as the article about the hostage, or a
picture of Britney Spears), then scroll down, pop-ups start flashing
repeatedly (c1dcon.ewizard), then it says that the number of open
windows has exceeded the limit, and then I can't use AOL at all. Pls
help

Hello crt1229-ga,
It seems that you've a spyware on your system. So, before I post a
formal answer to your question, I'd like you to run the following
anti-spyware programs.

1. Spybot - Search & Destroy
http://spybot.safer-networking.de/
Download link-
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10122137.html?part=104443&subj=dlpage&tag=button

2. Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
You can download this software from here-
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button

3. CWShredder
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=sp#det
Download it from-
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Before running any of the above scanners, make sure that you update
your anti-spyware program to get a list of latest spywares.
Once you are done with all the scans, reboot your system and see if
you are still having the same problem. If yes, then run HijackThis and
post the log, so that I can see what exactly is loaded on your system.

If it fixes your problem, do let me know so that I can post the detailed answer.

Thanks
netcrazy

I ran into the same problem on my Windows 98 machine with the browser
hijacking and the endless popups from http://c1dcon.... -- both with
AOL and with another ISP. I had already tried the first two steps
recommended by netcrazy, which got rid of spyware but not the
hijacking or the popups. However, the third step executed quickly and
cleaned up both problems: No more browser hijacking and no more c1dcon
popups. Thank you, netcrazy, and merijn.org, the creator of
CWShredder.

hey downlaod AOL 9.0 optimized and go on google.com then when that
google.com window will open. on that window's right hand corner you
will see Blicking Pop up or allow pop up from this site. click on that
and then clikc on Turn on pop up blocker. and it will resolve this
problem.
