I would like help identifiying a movie. I believe the
movie was black and white, that the setting was in Europe, set some
time in the early to mid 20th century. It was a psycholigical
suspense thriller type movie with a film noir sort of feel. I saw
just several scenes of the movie on TV late one night when I was in
graduate school about 7 years ago, and I have always wondered. Here
is the defining scene from movie: A murder plot is hatched whereby a
man is made to appear to commit suicide in public by jumping off a
train platform. In actuality, the man backs off the platform in
complete terror of a person who approaches him on the platform. The
twist is that the person who approaches the victim has no idea that
the victim has been brainwashed to be terrorized of him, so he has no
idea why the victim recoils in fear as he approaches him and
jumps/falls off the platforms. I believe the person is innocently
sent to deliver a letter to the victim at the train station or some
other benign reason. I don't have much else to go on-- but
it was a gripping climax to the film-- any help?
