Research Proposal: How Does IT Spending Impact Future Performance?
http://www.utdallas.edu/~nh45/New_Prop.doc
Empirical studies have documented higher market valuation of firms
that may be attributed to new IT initiatives or IT spending. This
suggests that expected future earnings increases with IT spending but
research has not investigated how different types of IT impact
earnings over time. In this study I document that IT spending does
impact future performance and find that the performance impact of IT
spending is strongest two or three years after the spending occurs.
In proposed research, I plan to investigate whether stock prices fully
capture the future performance impact of IT spending and how IT
spending contributes to different dimensions of firm performance.
