I recently submitted this question, but decided to organize it a little better:
BACKGROUND: I am a transactional attorney. I worked for two major
national law firms as an associate in business and finance for five
years and now I have my own practice. I hate my job. I am recently
married and, like my wife, I am 29 years old. I am thinking career
change.
JOB DESCRIPTION: I would like a job involving heavy regional travel
(like a route--not something that is a 60 mile loop from my front
door) along the lines of a merchandising sales rep job wherein I would
visit stores to boost sales, train, be involved in the hiring process,
etc. I want a job where I can use my organizational, analytical,
communication, and people skills to quantify and boost performance and
sales. I solve problems for a living--sometimes 'til 4 AM, so I want
to be able to use these skills and not let them atrophy. Therefore,
trucking, political campaign jobs, circus, etc. are out as
possibilities. All travel expenses would be covered by the employer.
My wife, a writer, would travel with me by car. We want to see the
country before we have kids. Considering heavy travel and my skill
set, salary should be commensurate.
MY INTERESTS: (1) Reading: Literature, History, Current Events,
Political, Biography (dislikes: Sci-Fi, Pulp Fiction, Pop Culture);
(2) Public Speaking; (3) Writing and Editing; (4) Baseball; (5)
Travel; and (6) Fine Dining, Wine, Art (though I know little or
nothing about any of these three things!).
MY QUESTION: I need to know if (i) jobs that meet the description
above AND match some of my interests (don?t be afraid to show
alternatives) are readily available, (ii) who offers them and how I
can contact such employers, (iii) what the salary-base would be, and,
(iv) since I am going to need to show transferable skills, what
skill-sets I would need to show on my CV to obtain an interview. Also,
if all of the above are answered, (v) what regions of the US/EU
(keeping in mind that I am not fluent in foreign languages, which
coupled with no EU work permit, I am aware, probably rules out the EU)
are in particular demand. And any other advice that comes to mind
(extra tip--over and above usual tip--for especially good advice). |
