Google Answers,
I need to know how much video recording media (both tape and DVD) has
been sold in the US per year for the last three years - both
professional and consumer. The answer must be documented well enough
to be included in a business plan and must be broken into meaningful
segments. Possible segments could be, format of recording media or
types of users. Both breakdowns would be a bonus.

Hello Nomeus -

I've been able to retrieve sales data for tape and DVD for the last 3
years from an analyst firm. However, for the company to further break
it down into different media formats would be a cost of about $1820
USD. If you'd like me to provide you with the information I have,
along with contact information to the firm, please let me know ASAP.

Thank you,

jbf777

In addition, if you'd like to lower the price of your question, we can
work something out.

Google answers,
Please provide the info you have and the new price for the answer. We
may want to break it down in the future but for now the sales info and
the contact info should suffice.

Thank you.

Nomeus -

What price would you expect to pay?

Since the information is relatively limited I think $30.00 would be
fair; however, since this is the first time I have used this service I
may be off base. Please advise.

There is one particular break-out: "PC usage" vs. DVD Recorder usage.
They're both DVD's however. The tape side of things is for sales of
"blank video tape."

I would actually like to clear around $40 on the research (I receive
75%), so would you be OK with $50 as a list price?

$50.00 is fine as long as the numbers include professional and
consumer usage and you include the contact info for the full report.

Best Regards,

EE

Each number represents a combination of both consumer and profesional
usage (i.e., there's no breakout of consumer vs. professional). The
full contact information for the company will be included. I'll have
to wait for you to change the price before I can post the answer.
Thanks.

Is the total for video tape just VHS? I need to know the total for
all formats such Mini DV, Betacam SP etc.

Clarification of Answer by jbf777-ga on 24 Jun 2004 13:27 PDT
Let me make sure of that. The UK office is closed right now, but I
will be in contact with them tomorrow.

The data is for VHS only (I don't know why; perhaps it's what's
predominantly requested when using the term "tape"). However, she's
sending revised figures to me that will include the other formats.

I'm checking on the scope of this new data, as I don't see Betacam SP
listed. Will return with more info.

The figures above are just for "analog tape." The figures below
represent all tape, of every format, digital (Betacam, Mini DV,
Digital 8, Micro NV, etc) and analogue.

I do apologize, but unfortunately, the company has just further
clarified things one more time. This is for CONSUMER tape, and
Betacam SP is not included. Pro formats such as Digibeta, BetaSX,
DVCPRO, DVCAM, MPEGIMX, HDCAM, D3, D5, Betacam SP and U-Matic are not
in these numbers. I'm waiting to hear back to see if I can get the
other formats. My apologies again!

The company has informed me that this additional data would be at the
discounted quote of $500. They said there is a great deal of primary
research in collating the data.  I apologize for this inconvenience;
please let me know what this question is worth to you as-is, and I'll
let you know what we need to do to accommodate. Thank you.
