Question ID: 363771
I am looking for an automatic or semi automatic machine that sorts
different pills into small bags. There can be as many as 15 different
pills and sometimes 4 of a particular pill so up to 25-30 pills per
bag. the bags will then be sealed. i'm thinking that there must be a
machine that does this for a third world pharmacutical company where
electricity may not be an option. i will consider the question
answered if i can find the manufactor, a fabricator, or the product
itself. This machine can be crude and not need electricity or it can
be more elegant and use electricity. it cannot be priced over
10,000.00 U.S
thank you

Hello, Steve!

Would a Drug-o-Matic pill counter meet your needs?

"The primary use of these units is in small to medium volume
dispensing of multiple pharmaceutical types into a container, such as
a bottle or envelope. It may be used for batch counting of pills, but
is best suited for dispensing a quantity of various pills, where the
type of pill will vary widely. For example, if the situation is in a
pharmacy, where 100 types of pills are dispensed, then each type of
pill is put into its own cassette. Then, to dispense 50 of pill number
37, 25 of pill number 61 and 57 of pill number 77, the various
cassettes loaded with those pills (previously loaded by the
pharmacist) are pulled from the shelf, inserted into the machine, the
desired number typed into the unit, and the machine then counts out
those number of pills. Then the next cassette is inserted, a new
bottle placed into the machine and the next quantity dispensed. The
advantage of this machine is low cost, and the machine does not need
to be cleaned with each type of pill, as the cassette is changed
preventing intermixing of stray compound."

There's one of these devices on eBay right now. The auction ends tomorrow:

If I am off base here, and have misunderstood what you are seeking,
please point me in the right direction. Sometimes it is difficult to
get a good grasp of what our customers need without a bit of
back-and-forth dialogue.

Here's an interesting product. The manufacturer offers several
versions of similar devices:

hey pinkfreud...i have looked at that piece myself..nice job...we want
a product that can sort many different pieces into a bag..this one
puts them in blister paks which would involve to much work to open.

many thanks

steve...

hey pinkfreud..that one company was a no go...they don't cater to my
application and the salesman probably the most rude/unhelpful person
i've ever contacted...
in any case i contacted a non profit clearing house that you may be
interested in in the future..they represent over 500 packaging
manufactorers..pmmi.org is the web site.
i'm still interested in anything you may come up with..many thanks.

I'm sorry to hear that you encountered rude treatment from a salesman.
It sounds as if this person is in the wrong line of work. One of the
primary duties of a salesman is to be courteous.

I am pretty much tapped out, and have run out of ideas. This type of
search is not my strong suit, but there are Researchers here who can
work wonders with such things. I hope one of my colleagues will be
able to find precisely what you need.

Hi Steve -

I've found a company that has more than one product under $10,000.
Would you be interested in an answer still?

Please disregard -- turns out this one particular manufacturer doesn't
have one in that price range that does that many pills. You may have
to find something in China or India, as this company advises that
these types of machines that do this many pills are in the 10's of
thousands of dollars.

thanks Jbf777...any leads appreciated...
and thank you pinkfreud..i'll see how this non profit clearing house
for machinery works out
best,
e.
