I created a Gmail account a while ago. Now whenever I log in to
G-Answers I automatically am logged out of Gmail, and vice versa. What
to do? It's incredibly annoying when I get GA activity emails into my
Gmail account. I check "keep active for 2 weeks" for both G-Answers
and Gmail but this is ignored/ overwritten (guess it's the same
cookie).
Answer
There is no answer at this time.

I certainly hope someone can provide an answer, since have the same problem.

I have decided to use one computer for my Google Answers activities
and a second computer for Gmail. I suppose using two different
browsers on a single computer would work, but I'm somewhat fixated on
my browser, and am not eager to learn my way around another at this
time.

This feature works fine with me, what I did is to use the Gmail
address as the email address to log into Google Answers. Try this by
updating your profile, it works fine with me.

Good luck!!

When I created my Gmail account, I got this warning:

--
If you instead choose to create a Gmail account separate from your
Answers account, your Answers account will remain unchanged. However,
you will not be able to log in to both services at the same time.
--

So if livioflores' suggestion does not work, I don't believe there's
anything else that you can do at this time. My Gmail and GA accounts
are both the same(when I log out of GA, I'm logged out of Gmail, and
vice versa), so I don't have this particular problem. For you
researchers, this is also noted in the April newsletter. Perhaps you
recieved that as well, j_phillip.

I'm not sure if there can be an easy solution for this. But I've
learned not to underestimate Google so, as till says, let's wait and
hope.

A quick workaround for this problem would be to check your gmail in
one browser (e.g., Internet Explorer) while checking Google Answers in
another browser (e.g., Mozilla). The reason that you can't log on to
both Google Answers and Gmail simultaneously is likely that Google is
using the same login "cookie" for both services, so logging into one
writes over the cookie for being logged into the other. However, if
you have two different browsers, they won't "see" each other's
cookies, and you should be able to browse Google Answers on one
simultaneously with checking Gmail on the other.

It's not an ideal solution, but it might help alleviate some of the frustration.

I seem to have only ONE problem....logging off of Gmail does log me
off of GA. But logging off of GA does *not* log me off Gmail. I have
dragged the URL icons of GA and Gmail onto the "Links" tab of IE. From
there I log into GA and then Gmail, tabbing between both, without
needing to log onto either the entire day (Or until I reboot-whichever
comes first!)If I open a new IE browser, the same applies-both
accounts are still open! This works beautifully for me.

Also remember that Gmail is in Beta status, so some troubles will
continue appearing.
