When Theodore Herzl met with Kaiser Wilhelm in Jerusalem in 1898, he
(Herzl) stayed in a house at 33 Mamilla Road, just outside the Jaffa
Gate. When the Mamilla area was razed for the construction of a modern
housing complex, there was a major confrontation over the fate of the
historical house, which had become a museum (called the Stern House, I
believe). Have you any information about the fate of this
building? Thank you.

I could find a 2004 source IN HEBREW, noting that it is "in
reconstruction"/ "rennovation" (same word in Hebrew). I could point
you to the source, as well as to an authority that might have more
information (perhaps also in English).

Would you accept this as an answer?

Yes, by all means give me the two references. I speak Hebrew.

Dear Niflah,

The site i-Travel reported in May 2004 on "Site Conservation Week".
Within this, it mentioned that on the 17th of May, 2004, a cornerstone
would be laid in Stern House, to commence the rennovations.

Site Conservation Week (Shv'ua Shimur Atarim), i-Travel

The authority involved in the rennovation is "The Council for
Restoration and Preservation of Historic Sites in Israel":

I hope this answered your question. I realise it is not a very
optimistic answer - if rennovations are initiated now, it would take
years to accomplish anything. Please contact me if you need any
further clarification on this answer before you rate it.

The relevant websites provided the required information. I can
continue my research in Jerusalem in September, guided by the sources
provided by your researcher. Many thanks!
