This may seem wierd, but I want to know what is the deal with these small white pieces of food (or what I think is food) that becomes dislodged from the back of one's tonsils every month or so. These little pieces (about the size of a penciltip) generally smell quite bad- almost like the cause of bad breath. If someone can tell me what exactly this stuff is and a name for it. A link to more information would be helpful, as well as any tips on how to limit its occurances. |

Hello. It sounds like you're describing "tonsilloliths" (aka "tonsil stones") See: DoctorHoffman.com - Tonsilloliths http://www.doctorhoffman.com/xlith.htm Yahoo Health- Treating Tonsil Stones http://health.yahoo.com/health/centers/parenting/00014004 As indicated in the Yahoo article... "Most people with calculi of the tonsils have no associated symptoms. In that case nothing need be done, except perhaps for brushing or scraping them out... Gargling, refraining from eating during the 30 minutes before falling asleep, and careful oral hygiene may help minimize their formation." --------- search strategy: tonsils white particles As always, please keep in mind that Google Answers is not a substitute for professional medical advice. If you need professional medical advice, you should contact a physician. I hope this helps. |
