What do you mean by "successfully operated on?" "Success" is a
relative term in medicine.

Are you speaking of wet or dry macular degeneration?

BY SUCCESFUL I MEAN THAT THEIR VISION WAS IMPROOVED (IF THEY COULDN'T
SEE AT ALL THAT THEY COULD SEE, EVEN IF IT WAS A MINIMAL IMPROVEMENT,
AND IF THEY COULD SEE THAT THEIR VISION IMPROVED.

Hi absolut_majo,

Good overall article here -

# Macular translocation surgery.
Macular translocation surgery is an experimental treatment for wet
macular degeneration. This surgery can be used if the abnormal blood
vessels are located directly under the fovea. To start the procedure,
your surgeon detaches the retina, shifts the fovea away from the CNV
and relocates it over healthy tissue. When the CNV is exposed, the
surgeon can then use a hot laser to destroy blood vessels without
damaging the fovea. This surgery can be performed only if your vision
loss is recent (usually within 1 to 3 months), the extent of CNV is
limited and the tissue around the fovea is healthy.

A big question would have to be where do you live?

The Mayo clinic seem to have a very informative page on the topic
along with treatment options that they would appear to offer.

As for 'success' in these area's of treatment, you will have to
address that question directly to the practitioner at hand and asking
them what their success rates are. In any event, from reading what's
available, there is no certainty of success.

Good luck though.

Andy
