I have a new G5 ? How do I add a second drive (serial ATA) I know that I can add 1 additional serial ATA drive, but I have 4 questions? 1- Can I just go down to compusa, and buy any serial ATA drive? 2- Where and how do I mount is? 3- Do I need to buy another cable, and if so, what kind and where do I get it? 4- How do I plug this new drive it? Do I daisy chain it off the old one? How does serial ATA work in this regard? thanx in advnce |

1-yes, but ask a Mac specialist just to make sure 2-Open up that manual and start reading. I am working from memory, but all this info should be in the manual. Take off the side panel using the lever at the back. Remove the airflow guide. Unwrap that new drive. in the upper right hand corner of the G5, you will find the first SATA drive. screwed into the lastic caddy should be 4 plastic studs. take these out of the G5 and screw them into the holes in your new hard drive. Look again at the plastic drive caddy. There should be two sets of slotted rails. One should have an SATA drive already in it. There should also be a built in set of power and data cables for the new drive. These cables are either tucked below the plastic caddy or just hanging loose. The empty slot is the upper one, I think. Slide your drive into the empty rails, plugs facing you. plug in your drive, put the case back together and reboot. 3-No 4-see 2. Hopefully, someone with more then my rote component knowledge can answer your SATA quastion. Good luck! |

Hi, the SATA and power cables are in the bay, already attached. Simply buy a compatible HD - fastest is Raptor 10,000 RPM either 30ish GB or 72GB and plug in. Format HD and you're off. |
