I am looking for a fax machine that receives faxes, and automatically
converts them to PDF and emails me a notification of the fax (but
keeps the image on my server for archive/backup.....so i would click a
link to view the fax from the server. I want the PDFs to be stored in
a file-folder type setup where I can choose the name and location of
the PDF storage location. Maybe this isnt a fax machine more than it
could be a server-based software but I would prefer a machine that
could do this so I could also manually send faxes too. Either will
work, so long as my needs are met. Also, (separately) I am looking
for SOFTWARE, that can I can use in the PRINT command of any
application, that prints the page (like a webpage) AS A PDF and then
stores the PDF on a server (asks me what category or folder to place
it). I want to archive webpages, and research that I come across.
THANKS!

Found one for $1500 -- don't know if this is within budget? :)

Have you found any fax server software for a Win2K server that
notifies by email when fax received and stores them in PDF? Also,
should have an easy-to-use web-based interface for viewing received
faxes & managing them...

Do you use Exchange? If so, I've got a couple options for you.

Re your second question, there are plenty of print-to-PDF
applications, both free and commercial. One I like is Fineprint PDF
factory, which IIRC has the ability to add new pages to the end of
existing PDF files, so you could keep all research on one topic
together. It's commercial, with a free demo.

You can also (for the second question) try PDF995 (www.pdf995.com) for
a free-with nag or $9.95 for license print-to-pdf...

As for fax to pdf, I'm assuming you're using a Windows environment, so
maybe Symantec Winfax could be an option. Also, I've been happy with
www.gfifax.com's offering, but the images are .tifs and emailed,
although archives are possible with the program.

If you were going with a Linux solution, it's not too bad (and free
with hardware). A simple script can be used to handle receipt of
faxes, converting from .TIF to .PDF, emailing notification, and then
you can manually determine the disposition of the file.

well the server is Win2K...but my laptop is Mac...so a thin-client /
web-based retrieval/viewing would be good so i can retrieve faxes from
anywhere and on a mac or pc.

You mentioned IIRC...what is that?

If you're Mac-based you could try PageSender:

http://www.smileonmymac.com/pagesender/

Will even notify you by email of a fax received.

Curiogeorges,

IIRC, as used by Owain, is short for "if I recall correctly" or "if I
remember correctly."
