What writer compared writing free verse to weaving cloth, and wondered
why the poet didn't go ahead and make a garment (that is, rhymed
verse) out of the words thus generated? I thought it was Robert
Frost, but I can't guarantee that. I'd like to have the exact quote
and the reference (the title of the work the quote appeared in).
Thanks!

Thanks for the comments. It seems to me that, to make the analogy
more colorful, the writer may have specified a particular garment --
perhaps asking why the poet didn't go on to make a pair of trousers.
(Or a coat maybe? Sorry that my memory is so hazy.)

Hi curiousndc,

Robert Frost famously said that "Writing free verse is like playing
tennis without a net," but I couldn't find the quote you refer to, by
Frost or anyone else. Perhaps another researcher will have more luck!

I remember seeing a quote very long ago that was exactly what you're
describing, with the analogies to weaving and tailoring. Somehow I
associate this with Edwin Arlington Robinson, but I haven't been able
to find any proof. Maybe one of my colleagues can take this clue and
run with it.
