Hello Muller227

I have compiled the following review which details the main features
of these two boards. In the review of the features V1 indicates the
earlier board, V2 indicates the newer board.

V1: CPU Socket A for AMD® Athlon? XP/ Athlon?/ Duron? 600MHz ~2.8GHz+
V2: AMD Duron/AMD Athlon/AMD AthlonXP 3200+ processors

This indicates that the support for newer processors has been upgraded
as it now supports speeds up to 3200+ processors.

V1: North Bridge: NVIDIA® nForce2 SPP
    South Bridge: NVIDIA® nForce2 MCP-T(Deluxe Model) / MCP
V2: Northbridge: NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400
    Southbridge: NVIDIA nForce2 MCP-T

The Northbridge chipset has been upgraded to the superior Ultra 400 version.

V1: FSB 333 / 266 / 200 MHz
V2: FSB up to 400 MHz

Support for Front Side Bus speeds of 400 MHz has been added.

V1: Memory - Dual-Channel DDR 400, 3 x 168-pin DIMM Sockets, Max. 3 GB
unbuffered PC3200/PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC DDR RAM Memory
V2: Memory - Dual-channel memory architecture, 3 x 184-pin DDR DIMM
sockets for up to 3GB memory, Supports PC3200/PC2700/PC2100/PC1600
unbuffered non-ECC DDR DIMMs

V1: 1 x AGP Pro/8X (1.5V only), 5 x PCI
V2: 5 x PCI, 1 x AGP Pro/8X (1.5V only), 1 x ASUS proprietary Wi-Fi slot

A proprietary Wi-Fi slot has been added for version 2.

V1: IDE - 2 x UltraDMA 133/100/66/33, 2 x Serial ATA with RAID 0/1.
V2: 2 x UltraDMA 133/100/66/33, 2 x Serial ATA with RAID 0, 1 support

V1: Realtek® ALC650 6CH w/built in HP amplifier, Integrated APU (Audio
Processor Unit, Deluxe Model), SoundStorm? / Dolby® Digital (AC-3)
Encoder (Deluxe Model)
V2: MCP-T southbridge integrated Audio Processor Unit (APU) + Realtek
ALC650 6-channel audio CODEC

V1: LAN - 2 Ports, MCP integrated NVIDIA® MAC + Realtek® 8201BL PHY,
MCP integrated 3Com® MAC + Broadcom® AC101L PHY (Deluxe Model)
V2: Marvel 88E8001 Gigabit LAN MCP-T southbridge integrated controller
MAC + Realtek 8201BL LAN PHY

V1: 2 Ports MCP-T Integrated IEEE 1394a + Realtek® PHY 8801B (Deluxe Model)
V2: MCP-T southbridge integrated IEEE1394a controller + Realtek 8801B PHY

V1: Ports-
    1 x Parallel
    1 x Serial
    1 x PS/2 Keyboard
    1 x PS/2 Mouse
    1 x Audio I/O
    4 x USB 2.0
    1 x Surround L/R audio jack + 1 x CNTR/LFE audio jack (optional)
    2 X RJ45 (optional, 2nd RJ45 is for Deluxe Model)

V2: Ports-
    1 x parallel port
    1 x serial port
    1 x PS/2 keyboard port
    1 x PS/2 mouse port
    1 x S/PDIF in/out port
    1 x surround L/R audio jack
    1 x Gigabit RJ-45 Port
    1 x Fast Ethernet RJ-45 port
    4 x USB 2.0 ports

The major differences between the two boards are therefore the support
for the newer CPU's, an updated Northbridge chipset and the increase
in allowed speeds for the Front Side Bus.

It is possible that a BIOS upgrade would provide the support for the
newer processors and increased FSB speed. Have you (or was the
motherboard) upgraded the BIOS at any time?

I forgot to mention that the ASUS.com website link says "starting from
PCB version 2.0, the A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard supports Front Side
Bus (FSB) 400". This would appear to back up the fact that your
motherboard must have had its BIOS upgraded sometime in its life
(sometimes this happens at the factory when they are beginning to turn
out a new revision).

The upgrades are available here:

I have to add one thing:
Use some hardware detection software like Everest (free software for
home users) or aida32 (discontinuated but has infomation about both
boards) or any other good and recent (at least from the second quarter
of 2004) hardware detection software.
There you will recive information about your boar including the
vertion and the chipset model. The Nforce 2 SSP does not officialy
suport FSB400 and is hard to reach it evean with good overclocking
skills. If your board have GigaBit lan the vertion is the 2.0.
For being sure just use the detection software.
Sory about my poor english.
I hope i could help.

I believe the differences "palitoy" gave above are between the
A7N8X-Deluxe & the A7N8X-E Deluxe. Two very different beasts.

I too am wondering the same thing as "muller227" and that is what is
the difference between the A7N8X-E Deluxe v1.10 PWB and the most
recent version that I believe is 2.0. I just bought this motherboard
and I noticed the version printed on the PWB.
