California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas,
Louisiana, Missippi, Alabama, Iowa, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio,
Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Georgia, Missouri, and bits of Virginia,
South Carolina and Florida.

West Virginia:
"Although the presence of the brown recluse spider in West Virginia has never been
officially confirmed, accounts of its distinctive bites exist. The
presence in the state of a related species, Loxosceles rufescens, was
reported in 1993."

Brown recluse spiders have been found further north than indicated on
the older maps. A rarity a few years ago, we are seeing them regularly
in our University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension office in Lincoln,
Nebraska.
