How do I get Word 2003 to show documents in Normal view by default? I don't need to know how to modify the Normal.dot file so that all new documents are shown in Normal View. I know how to do that. I have documents that are emailed to me and I want (by default, not some macro I must manually run) them to come up in Normal View when I open them in Word 2003. The documents are opening in print layout. Word does have an option under tools -> options -> general to turn off reading layout, but I don't see anything about turning off print view. Ive had a bunch of people try and say they knew the answer, but when the sit down and try, it doesn't work. | |

That only works for new documents by editing the normal.dot That is normally (no pun intended) the answer I am given. But as I described, it doesn't apply. Thanks |

Create an autostart macro and place it in normal.dot. The macro does just the one thing, changes your view. Assign the macro to Ctrl-Num0 in case it doesn't work. |

I am not sure how to do that...but wouldn't that only run when I opened a new document...and not when I open an existing one? |

Hi, killerhippo. This will NOT work unless you've already got Word open because it requires it to be open in order to fire the event that runs the macro. http://www.vbaexpress.com/kb/getarticle.php?kb_id=65 However, once Word is open, all of your documents will open in the view you designate. I feel confident in saying that it's as good as you'll get. |
