How do i download screensavers from the internet into an open source system (linux)

It would help to know which version of Linux you have in order to
assist with answering.

As a quick hint, xscreensaver has MANY high quality screensavers
already built in. If you're running X (gnome, kde, twm, whatever) try
typing xscreensaver at an xterm prompt and see what's what.

If it isn't installed (because they take up *some* space), then you
can download/install the RPM or Debian apt-get.

If you're not running X-windows, then your choices are narrowed a bit,
to commands such as lock.
