There is a Granada Airport, situated 17kms from the city, but at
present the only airline using it is Iberia for flights to Barcelona
and Madrid. It is rather surprising that neither of the major
"economy" airlines, Ryanair and Easyjet, do not fly there; and
possibly there is some environmental reason which restricts flying in
that area.

Sorry about the double negative in my second sentence - "do not" should be deleted.

I know this is not the kind of information you are looking for, but
there is an international airport at Malaga, near granada. There are
busses going from Malaga to granada. It takes 90 minutes to get to
granada.

Thanks for the comments, yes I know there is an airport on Malage and
I have used it.

I am also aware that there is an airport in Granada used for domestic
flights. I was told by a pilot that there are plans for an
international airport which as you point out would no doubt attract
the budget airlines almost straight away.

Thanks
Steve

The answer is no, in the near future. There are no current plans for
new airports withing Spain.

There is the possibility of a new airline starting up to operate
Granada - Manston in the UK, but this may be just a rumour

I have to correct part of my previous comment, there are plans for
some airport development in Spain namely, Ciudad Real (100 miles south
of Madrid) and Castellon (70 miles north of Valencia, along the
coast).
