Hello Dsilvari

Being the best at anything is always a very subjective thing, one
person may think John Lennon was the best in The Beatles whilst
another may think Paul McCartney was the best. In my answer to your
question I have tried to assess the different opinions on the internet
and weighted those along with whose opinions those are to come by the
best mosquito trap. With this in mind I believe the best mosquito
trap to be the MOSQUITO MAGNET.

The most common methods of killing mosquitos are to use a
chemical-based solution (such as DEET or permethrin) or to use a
carbon dioxide emitting device. Chemical-based solutions are
acceptable but can cause problems if there is regular human
(especially child) activity around the location where they are used.
Other "Zappers", citronella oils or citrosa plants work in some
situations but when tested scientifically have not proven so
successful.

The Mosquito Magnet is a carbon dioxide (CO2) based trap. It emits a
stream of CO2 (mixed with octenol) which fools the mosquitos into
believing that the CO2 is the exhaled breath of one of its prey. As
the mosquito approaches it is vacuumed into the device to its death.

The Mosquito Magnet received rave reviews in the New York Times whilst
Florida A&M University's Public Health Entomology Research and
Education Center showed that the Mosquito Magnet captured 900% more
mosquitos than a competitor. The unit is also used by the US Army
Medical Command in the Centers for Disease Control in the Republic of
Korea and the US Coast Guard in the Bahamas.

believe, the best solution. If you have any further questions on this
subject please ask for clarification and I will do my best to help.

I just wanted to be a little picky.

"The most common methods of killing mosquitos are to use a
chemical-based solution (such as DEET or permethrin)" is not totally accurate.
--DEET is a repellent, applied to the skin which hopefully keeps them
critters away. IT does not kill insects.
--Permethrin is a synthetic insecticide in pyrethroid family. There
are some toxicity warnings.
--"Pyrethrin" is the natural version of this insecticide and has
minimal effect upon mammals. Unfortunately it is starting to have
minimal effects upon many insects (they are developing tolerance to
this chemical).

To quote Jack Handy...

"You know what's probably a good thing to hang on your porch in the
summertime, to keep mosquitos away from you and your guests? Just a
big bag full of blood."

I saw a great trap recently called the "mosquito-slayer". It had
caught hundreds of mosquitos just one nightIt is an Australian made
trap which was purchased on the web. Did some research on Google and
found the manufactures of this trap which uses carbon dioxide octenol
and lactic acid and other attractants at bantix.com.au. Problem was
they don't seem to have any agents in the USA. They have some test
results on their site which give some interesting statistics of
comparison against the mosquito magnet and other mosquito traps.
