His (un)official bio mentions nothing:

Can't say how reliable their sources are, but on the newsgroup
alt.recovery.addiction.alcoholism, they name Steve Perry on their list
of recovering alcoholic musicians.

I think they are referring to the lead singer of that other group
----Poppin (something-not my style).
I have heard something along those lines anyways....of course there
are at least 5 known singers with the name of Steve Perry..take your
pick!!

Yes, I ran into him in a meeting once, but it's really nobody's
business who's in recovery. He deserves the same privacy you all do.

My reason for the question was not to pry into his personal life.
It's just that I thought it strange that such a high profile
publication as Forbes would print a statement that he (Steve Perry)
"had disappeared into alcoholism" (I think that was the quote), and
have that be the only reference I ever found to him having any
addiction problems. Many things have been written about Steve Perry,
but addiction/alcoholism didn't seem to be mentioned at all. It made
me wonder why he didn't sue the publication.
