Any chance you could tell us the timeframe of when you saw it, or heard it? Where did you come across it? Are you familiar with the length of it, or have you only seen the first part? I haven't found anything that comes close, even with misspellings, and omissions. Need some more clues ;-) -AI |

I found this poem last week, written in my handwriting, inside the back cover of an old college textbook of mine, which would date it to 1949-50, but I have absolutely no recollection of writing or ever reading it. Here is the rest of what I then wrote, though I don't know if this is the entire poem: Reflecting still a mentor's shallow print, she dives for baubles - lies in turn, stretched cool 'neath shallows in the empty sand, and waits the tepid touch of sexless saviours. Chosen, long denied, his hands fulfil, yet must erase the fluted script in virgin hollows. But now, the sea is calm; a rougher tap disturbs a misty future-past confusion - she allows a kind caress, still turned Messiah-wise, to wait; while tide sifts husk from chaff, casting breast, then lips and hair in golden day. Eyes alone remain, then they as well take root in sullen soil, a sky without horizon. |

I have had no better luck than others, but I would note that the spelling of "saviours" is British. So we are probably not looking for an American poet. |
