Maggots are the larvae of flies. If you want to use chemical agents,
any pesticide that will kill flies will kill maggots. But you are
likely to get a fresh crop of maggots unless you remove all traces of
the decomposing material in which flies like to lay their eggs. It's
amazing how quickly flies will find a piece of unnoticed garbage that
has fallen behind a counter or elsewhere, and lay eggs that soon turn
into maggots.

This question brings back a memory of many many summers ago...Eeek

I left a green garbage bag in my foyer and went away on vacation for 2 weeks.
Upon my return, I picked it up to take it out and thousands of maggots
fell out of the bottom of the bag............ewwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeee

I used an insect spray to eventually kill them all off....but it took
many weeks as they tend to crawl into tight, hidden
spots...argh........

Thats the last time I ever foolishly left any garbage out in the heat.
Learned my lesson big time....

I work in a funeral home and one of our worst fears are maggots,
fortunately we just keep flies out, so basically an ounce of
prevention is a pound of cure. Formaldehyde doesn't really slow them
down either. One would have to use kerosene if i remember correctly.
Or course I think the best course of action would be to just call an
exterminator.
