Question ID: 366639
I am asking this question on behalf of a friend.

This week my delightful 2yo decorated my 100% woollen floor rug and I
am looking for advice on the best and safest way to remove the stain.
The stain is mostly on a cream section of the rug, but there are a few
bits on a dark red and dark green section. The product slopped in
globs on the rug is Revlon Colorstay Makeup (Oil free) in Ivory color.
The active ingredient is titanium dioxide. Unfortunately I did not
notice the stain until the following day (there was so much on her
face, who would have thought to go looking for more) so the makeup on
the rug was quite dry by the time I got to it. At this point I have
not done anything to the stain at all.

In addition, I attempted regular washing, soaking in Napisan and
soaking in bleach in washing her poly-cotton pyjamas with no success
in even budging the stain on them. I do not need advice on removing
this stain, the PJs have been thrown away.

What can I use to remove this product from a woollen rug? Please note
the rug is expensive and the answer should give us a good amount of
confidence that it will not make the problem worse and do further
damage to the rug.

Many thanks.

I wish I could remember the name of this stuff. But, all is not lost.
Go over to the Grocery store or WalMart and look in the right section
for stain removal stuff. This company has lots of different stain
removing products. The bottles are yellow and are in a rack. I have
used their stuff on all kinds of stains and it works. If I remember
the name I'll post it.

I hope this helps a little.

I would advise against trying to remove the stain yourself. As the rug
is expensive, take it quickly to a specialist rug/carpet cleaner. They
will have products and chemicals that are not legal for retail sale.
More importantly, they will be insured in case they do cause further
damage.

Your house contents insurance may pay for the cleaning, or a
replacement rug, or be able to offer advice on approved cleaning
specialists. You could also contact the make-up manufacturers for
their advice.

Thanks for the sensible and useful comments above.

By the way I didn't mean to scare anybody off - this really won't
effect her college fund! Sorry - bad humor on my part. Feel free to
give this question your best shot if you have any ideas at all.

I've had great success using Folex to remove stains from my white
carpeting. It has removed even tough stains like dried paint and
months old automotive grease. You can find it at Walmart.
