I need some help here and I would appreciate it dearly. Right now, I
am mainly attempting to locate a microsurgeon (specialized surgeon who
operates with a special surgical microscope, often to reconnect blood
vessels and nerves) who has his/her email posted online so that I can
consult with him/her and ask
him/her questions. So far, I haven't been able to find that. If you
could find the email of any microsurgeons they might know or be able
to find online (better luck than me!) I would be very grateful. I've
been all over many such websites about microsurgery, like
microsurgeon.org and many others, but somehow, I rarely ever seem able
to come across actual contact info for a microsurgeon. And the few
times I do, when I attempt to make contact with them, I received no
response. I'm not sure if perhaps my email is broken (I doubt this
greatly, since I have tried sending them from other computers and
others' email accounts), or more likely these microsurgeons simply
have a rude habit of ignoring inquiries that they don't care
about/don't directly help them (i.e. monetarily). If anyone could try
to get one to actually give a response of this nature, that would be
wondeful. I need help to find a microsurgeon who would be willing to
set up some kind of a consultation with me/ answer my questions about
reattachment/ reconstructive microsurgery.

Even something found in like an online phone directory, or a hospital
that could put my in touch with a microsurgeon to answer my questions.
Just as long as that is it-- he/she has to answer me.

Hi!

a.) Can you provide me with links to the doctors you have already
found in the internet.

b.)Is geographic location an issue or you really just want to email
them. Some doctors might be too busy so they don't respond to email
that fast.

c.)Finally, how many doctors do you require for a good answer? Would
as many as we can find be enough?

Thanks!

One more thing, if email isn't available, would phone numbers be ok as well?

Clarification of Question by emperoroftheuniverse-ga on 02 Jul 2004 20:45 PDT
Yes, thank you. Geographic location isn't really much of an issue, I
could eventually travel to wherever, the important thing is just to
get some answers! I would like as many contacts as you can find, and
I've emailed some of these doctors months, even years ago- they're not
taking a long time, trust me, they're never going to respond. I don't
care if it's emails or phone numbers as long as they are willing to
listen to and help me and not just blow me off. I apologize, I don't
really have a complete list of the surgeons I've been able to contact,
as it never occurred to me to record one. I simply sent a query to any
microsurgeon I could find, and waited for the replies that never come.
I hope you can find one who will be willing to work with me.

Hi emperoroftheuniverse-ga!

I can only provide a list BUT NOT GUARANTEE that the particular doctor
will entertain you. Do you require someone to call each and everyone
of them or you can do this yourself and I just have to provide the
list.

Please advise me on how to proceeed on this one.

Thanks!

Thank you, I would appreciate it if you would call each and everyone
of them and provide me with a list only of those microsurgeons who
actually are willing to "entertain me", as you put it. Thank you very
much for your assistance, I do truly appreciate it.

I'm just simply curious, are you still working on this, and I'm just
waiting for you to be finished, or have you just abandoned the task?

Hi!

Sorry about that. Since I am located in a different country, it will
be impractical for me to call each microsurgeon.

Thanks!

Ok fine then. Will you just then provide me with the list please, as
extensive a list as possible, of microsurgeons with phone numbers I
could call but, especially, and even more specifically, with available
email addresses, and could you please test them to see if they respond
to emails, and give me a list of those?

Clarification of Question by emperoroftheuniverse-ga on 17 Jul 2004 23:36 PDT
Yes, I would like to make it clear that, once again, I am not trying
to annoy or in any way rush you, but again, I'm just curious, you are
still working on and accepting the new expectation of the task, (list
of microsurgeon contacts, phone numbers and/or emails, and,
preferably, and I would really appreciate this: pre-screening them to
some extent to see if they are at all responsive, so I don't just
simply run into the same problem that I have in the past.) or are you
actually working on it? I would appreciate it very much, and thank
you!

Hi again!

Due to some comimitments I will not be able to have the time and
energy to pursue this question. I hope you understand and I hope that
another researcher will take this question.

Thanks!

Ok, well, I'm not happy about that, but what can I do? Like you, I
hope some other researcher "steps up to the plate" on this rather
difficult problem of mine. See my comment below for my full feelings
on the subject.

Most microsurgeons are actually hand surgeons. My suggestion would be
to log onto www.handsugrery.org and choose 'FIND A SURGEON' and choose
an area near you. Some of the online physicians will have online
emails.

My caution, however, is that any surgeon who actually answers your
questions over email is not who you should be listening to. Find a
microsurgeon near you and visit them in person. The better
microsurgeons will be associated with a major medical center. Bring
your medical records and any imaging so an informed decision can be
made. If they are any good, if you ask for a recommendation for a
second opninion they will provide one for you.

Yes, thank you. I have considered trying to find and get in touch with
a local surgeon, but I've never been able to find one. I will try that
website, but there are a couple of problems with what you laid out,
even though I don't want you to think that I'm ungrateful for your
help/input. First of all, although I am aware that most microsurgeons
are specialist hand surgeons, the problem with that is that my issue
is non-hand related; (A quick purusal through some of my previous GA
searches might give you more of an idea of what sort of thing it is,
instead.) do you think that these hand microsurgeons would be willing
to perform non-hand operations? (For example, what if someone came in
with some other body part removed that needed to be re-attached, could
they and would they handle something of that nature?)

As for your other thing, that those who answer emails online are not
exactly the ones I should be listening to- this may be true. However,
I would still love it if someone could try to get me a list of
microsurgeon phone numbers/emails, so I can compile the largest base
of research possible in the particular field that I'm interested in:
basically, I'm trying to figure out how feasible it would be, how
close to my expectations (or desires) the final result would be, and
lastly, who would actually be operating on me. It may very well be
that the surgeon I ultimately select is someone I do meeet and
approach in person, I would still like for SOME researcher to put
together some form of a list.
