This is a tough one I think. I am looking for a school reader, read
by me in the Midwest in the early 1970s KG-1st grade, but probably
much older (1940s-50s) judging by what I recall of the pictures of
cars etc. in the stories. This reader is probably not a Dick and Jane
reader, but a very similar knockoff theme with Father, Mother, and I
think a boy and girl. I recall a story in which Father brings home a
popcorn popper, and another story in which Father makes hamburgers on
the grill and the family has a picnic. I would like to know the name
of the Reader and edition, so that I can locate a copy. Thanks!

Some children's early reader series similar to "Dick and Jane" were
"Janet and John," "Susan and Ted," and "Dot and Jim." Do any of those
names ring a bell?

If not, any additional details you can remember would be helpful.
Sometimes a tiny clue can lead to an answer.

I am glad you are looking into this! None of the names are familiar
to me. All I can remember from KG (1970) are those two basic plot
lines. Pretty sure of Mother, Father, boy, and girl, maybe a baby
too? I am pretty positive it is one of those knockoffs though (not
Dick & Jane). If you can get this you will really get a tip!
