What is the number of manufacturing facilities in the USA, sorted by
number of employees at the manufacturing facility?  I'd like the
answer broken down into 0-20 employees, 21 - 50 employees, 51 - 100
employees, 101 - 250, 251-500, 501 - 2000, 2000+ (or some similar
scale)

Thanks for the fast reply.  One clarification - you cite 2 different
sources below, and the numbers are 100,000 different when you add up
the total number of facilities -- do you have a point of view on which
you would trust more?

Fast, efficient, and to the point

The reason that the numbers are so different between the sources is
that they are measuring totally different things.  A manufacturing
facility is one factory or plant or mill, etc.  A firm is one company.
 One company can have many facilities.  The number of people in a firm
include research, marketing, accounting, etc.  At a manufacturing
facility, the number of people is typically laborers and management. 
So, neither source is wrong or better, they are just looking at 2
distinct populations.
